Although some Philadelphia area believe that the ritual Thanksgiving weekend music experience is listening to Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant on WXPN at noon on Thanksgiving Day, the hard core make the Thanksgiving Wednesday pilgrimage to see Hot Tuna at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside Pennsylvania. The shows vary from year to year between acoustic Hot Tuna, electric Hot Tuna, or, as this year, a little bit of both. Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady started Hot Tuna while they were still the lead guitarist and bassist for the Jefferson Airplane to experiment with blues music they had enjoyed as teenagers. As it turns out, Hot Tuna outlasted the Airplane. Its animating force seems to be Jorma and Jack’s dedication to musicianship. Find out more about Hot Tuna at allmusic.com. Hope to see you on Thanksgiving Wednesday.
